The Coiled Altar
The Venomous Abyss · boss 7 of 8
The spirit of Malacrass will not release his grip on Zul'jan so easily. At the Coiled Altar, the shaman commands the warrior to enact the final ritual to unleash Ula'tek on the Amani--for revenge, and to gain their promised reward.
Two bosses, one after the other, then both together. Kill the first, kill the second, then stop them reviving each other.
A three-act fight. Each act has one thing you must destroy on time: venom, then dread manifestations, then the ritual itself.
What actually kills you
Everything else is noise until these three are handled.
- Eternal Nightfall going off with Veil of Twilight intact. Break the veil or the raid dies.
- Coalesced Venom left alive — it ruptures when destroyed, so destroy it deliberately, not accidentally.
- Standing in Soul Sever's cone. It stacks vulnerability to itself.
Your job
If you tank
- Sever is enormous and it destroys Coalesced Venom. Aim it.
- Soul Sever is a frontal cone that also destroys Manifestations of Dread. Point it usefully.
- Corrupted Toxin stacks. Plan swaps around it.
If you heal
- Fangs of the Crucible and Defilement of the Crucible are massive raid damage plus healing absorbs. Cooldowns, both times.
- Venom Rupture happens when Coalesced Venom dies. Expect damage on every kill, not just on mistakes.
If you DPS
- Stage one: Toxic Deluge scatters Coalesced Venom. Clear it.
- Stage two: freeing possessed players creates Manifestations of Dread that fixate on someone. Kill them.
- Break Veil of Twilight before Eternal Nightfall resolves. This is the one non-negotiable damage check.
How the fight goes
| Part | What to do |
|---|---|
| Stage One: Serpent's Bargain | Zul'jan and his axes. Manage Coalesced Venom. |
| Stage Two: Usurper's Reprisal | Malacrass. Dreadmarch possesses people; freeing them spawns Manifestations. Break the veil before Eternal Nightfall. |
| Intermission: The Claimed Vessel | Malacrass tries to revive Zul'jan. Any healing Zul'jan gets is copied to Malacrass — stop the ritual. |
| Stage Three: Coiled Union | Both at once, soulbound. Kill one and the other berserks — bring them down together. |
Heroic vs Mythic
What changes on Heroic
- Gloombomb now applies Gravebound to everyone it hits, so its placement matters much more.
What changes on Mythic
- Some Coalesced Venom warps into Virulent Mutations, and the next Toxic Deluge detonates any that are still alive. Clearing venom becomes a hard timer.
- Axegrinders no longer despawn. They accumulate — you have to actually kill them.

Worth a bonus roll?
That depends on how many items on this table you still want. A boss owing two or more is worth returning to; one owing a single piece is a vault pick, not a roll — the bonus roll guide explains why, and the planner works it out per spec.
