The Hoardmonger

Den of Nalorakk · boss 1 of 3

Lore

Driven by voracious greed, the gluttonous Hoardmonger fiercely defends the stashes of food and supplies he has stolen from nearby troll tribes. Nalorakk's first trial is to eliminate him before the tribes go hungry.

In one sentence

He powers himself up from whichever hoard he is standing next to, so the tank chooses which upgrade he gets. Then walk into his mushrooms before they ripen.

A positioning fight disguised as a damage check. At three health thresholds the Hoardmonger runs to the nearest pile and permanently upgrades an ability — bones, meat or mushrooms — and the tank decides which by deciding where he is standing when the threshold lands.

These are not something to dodge. Untouched, they go off in your face. TOUCHED one player eats it IGNORED it detonates on everybody Spread out first — one each is cheap, two on one person is not.

What actually kills you

Everything else is noise until these three are handled.

  • Letting the mushrooms ripen. Every Rotten Mushroom that survives twelve seconds detonates into a Putrid Burst that puts Toxic Spores on the whole group. Walking into one gives the spores to you alone and destroys the fungus.
  • Giving him the mushroom pile. Overflowing Supplies means more mushrooms per throw, which is more of them than five people can reach.
  • Standing in front of him. Earthshatter Slam is a frontal cone, and once he has the bone pile it also leaves spikes on the floor behind it.

Worth a bonus roll?

You cannot roll this boss on its own. A dungeon roll is against the whole instance, so this table is one part of a pool that includes every other boss in Den of Nalorakkthe bonus roll guide explains what that changes, and the planner works it out per spec.
